MWSS Awards AWUAIP Phase 2 Project
MWSS awarded the AWUAIP Phase 2 Project to winning bidder China International Water & Electric Co. (CWE) yesterday (July 28, 2009). The project will repair the leaks of the existing aqueduct AQ5 which, if not done, is poised to endanger the supply of 2000 MLD of water for Metro Manila which is half of the 4000 MLD total water supply for Metro Manila. Also, the project involves t
he construction of a new aqueduct AQ6 to serve as by-pass during the rehabilitation of AQ5 and to accommodate additional supply from Angat and Umiray River Basin. Specifically, the project is divided into the following components: a) construction of the remaining section of AQ6, 9.9 km in length (5.5 kms. of AQ6 was constructed on January 2006 under Phase 1; b) rehabilitation of AQ5 and; c) interconnection works for AQ1 to AQ4 to AQ5 & AQ6.
Actually, what transpired yesterday was the issuance by MWSS of the Notice of Award to CWE and the signing of the contract agreement between the two parties. The Notice to Proceed will be issued by our Dept. of Finance (DOF) after finalizing the loan agreement between MWSS and China Exim Bank. The DOF acts as the chief negotiating unit of our government for the loan.
The award came after the competitive limited bidding process, required under the loan agreement between MWSS and China Exim Bank, and participated in by three Chinese suppliers. Total project cost is P5.29B and project duration is 36 months. - MWSS
